I don’t know when exactly or why I fell in love with Pi day. I’m not a mathematician, and I don’t really love to eat pie. Well, pizza pie is delicious, but most pies rarely appealed to me growing up and I don’t eat gluten so finding gluten free pies can be a challenge.
When I was a library director, we started celebrating Pi Day and Albert Einstein’s birthday (It’s today, too). We had pie tasting contests, Einstein look-alike contests, and a pie eating contest. A local restaurant donated about 12 Banana Cream pies each year. It was a crazy and fun day.
I love connecting with people and having fun. Being highly sensitive, that mustache and wig were a challenge to wear all day, but it was worth it for the laughs and celebration. I think we should celebrate more things just for the fun of it. It doesn’t need to be a major undertaking, but maybe spending some creative time making a piece of art or cooking a meal to go with the day’s theme. Maybe it’s just wishing everyone you encounter a Happy _______ Day!
My plan was to have this post done and sent out at 1:59 pm, but I shared the piece in my Illustration class through Storyteller Academy and got some wonderful feedback from Isabella Kung.1 I’m sure I could make more changes, and I might, but I wanted to share it on Pi Day, so for now, this is where it is. By the way, working with lots of layers in Procreate made it possible to make so many changes to the piece and not have to completely reinvent the wheel.

OK, enough about Pi and Pie. Hope your day has been infinitely wonderful. Let them eat Pi(e).
